One of the first VTOL aircrafts
In 1951 Lockheed and Conveir companies started developing a new kind of aircraft for the United States. Small fighter aircraft with VTOL (Vertical takeoff and landing) capabilities that could be deployed from any warship, big or small for a quick military responce. In 1954 the Convair XFY-1 was created also known as POGO. The aircraft was sitting on its tail which set it apart from conventional aircrafts and was equipped with waas equipped with turboprop engine. Although the aircraft met its specifications, Pogo never followed through the prototype fase due to stability issues and project was cancelled with only one prototype built.
