British Helicopter Air Horse
Built by the British designer Cyril Pullin, the Cierva W.11 also known as Air Horse, was a three rotor heavy lift helicopter capable carrying over one and a half tons. The legendary Rolls Royce Merlin engine powered the three rotors with each having three blades. The Helicopter was designed to be used as an air ambulance, aerial crane and passenger transport. The first flight was at the end of 1948 but the project was canceled in 1950 after one of the two helicopters built crashed. The second helicopter was scrapped the following year.
