The First Flight Across the English Channel
In july 1909 a French aviation pioneer Louis Blériot made history by crossing the English Channel in his Blériot XI aircraft. The Blériot XI was a single-engine monoplane with 25 horsepower wich managed to fly across the channel in thirty-six minutes. This incredible success made it`s French pilot and his aircraft famous overnight and resulted in upsurge in orders of the Blériot XI. In its lifespan over hundred aircrafts were built and some of those aircraft were converted into military version at the beginning of the First World War.
