Night Fighter Northrop P-61 Black Widow
Northrop P-61 Black Widow took to the skies in 1944, it represented a revolutionary concept in aerial warfare. As America's first fighter aircraft specifically designed for night operations, the Black Widow was built to hunt enemy bombers under cover of darkness. The P-61 was massive for a fighter, with a wingspan of nearly 66 feet and two powerful PRATT & WHITNEY Double Wasp engines. This gave it the speed, range, and endurance needed for extended nocturnal patrols. Over seven hundred aircrafts of the Black Widow were built and has been retired since 1954.
